Ashland Area Veterinary Clinic began in November of 1983. Dr. Gretchen Wilson was two years out of veterinary college and fell in love with the area because of the weather, the very organized farms, and the fine people who live here beside our great lake. The first clinic was established in Marengo. In 1991, the current building was erected to accommodate our continual expansion.
Dr. Dan Bloomquist joined the practice in 1990 and brought a great deal of equine and bovine expertise. Dan is a native of Ashland and he has hunted and fished here nearly all his life. He too loves the land, enjoys our clients, and is so very glad that we live and practice where we do.
In June of 2006 Dr. Heidi Jahnke brought a breath of fresh air into the practice. Her excellent dedication to detail, considerable equine experience, and innovative ideas in small animal medicine have greatly increased the breadth of our abilities to serve the varied needs of the community. She still has horses at home in Manitowish and visits and works with them during her time off.
The people in the rest of our staff have a great many backgrounds that have led them here. The common denominator, however, is a love of animals and a dedication to their well-being. All of us try to treat the animals in our care as we would our own pets. We hope to be able to work with you, the owner, because we know that is what you are seeking as well.
